FKA Twigs Abuse Heart-Breaking: Robert Pattinson’s Girlfriend Talks Twitter Trolls & Skipping ‘Twilight’ [Video]

FKA Twigs is sharing the abuse that she experienced. Currently dating Robert Pattinson, FKA Twigs revealed that Twitter trolls abused her with racist comments when the news broke that the 27-year-old singer, once known by the formal name of Tahliah Debrett Barnett, was dating Robert, reported the Daily Mail.

Pattinson and FKA have been dating since summer, 2014, and Twigs experienced the social media abuse began soon after the singer and Twilight actor’s relationship went public.

With a heritage from English, Spanish, and Jamaican ancestors, FKA shared that she was particularly upset when a fan of Twigs’ music was abused after the singer had shown her caring nature toward the fan’s friend, who was dying from cancer.

The fan shared a photo showing his friend and himself, noting that his ill pal found comfort in FKA’s music. Horrified, Twigs then read the abuse that followed about the woman dying from cancer.

“They all started attacking her,” recalled Twigs of the Twitter trolls’ abusive comments. “Within 20 seconds it was just like n*****, monkey, ugly, die b****, all this stuff on his feed. It broke my heart… this lady who is really sick and is probably going to die.”

Despite her heartbreak from the cruelty, FKA revealed that her parents had talked with her when she was young about racism and how her skin color might change other people’s attitudes toward her.

“Sometimes people are going to treat you differently because of the color of your skin,” the singer’s stepfather told her when she was 10-years-old. “Sometimes you’re going to have to work 10 times harder than somebody else to get the same appreciation, but never use it as an excuse. I agree with that.”

As a young girl in school, Twigs recognized that none of her peers shared her background.

“I was very conscious of it. I was half-Jamaican, but I didn’t understand that side of myself. Western society tells you if you’re blonde, you’re beautiful; if you have green eyes, you’re beautiful; if you have fair skin, you’re beautiful,” she said.

As for the new fame that FKA has garnered since dating Pattinson, she is not enjoying it, but willing to pay the price of publicity for love.

“It’s like, is this person in my life worth that? And he is, without question… In comparison to how happy I am. And how I feel with him. It’s 100 percent worth it,” she declared.

And FKA Twigs is definitely not starstruck by the Twilight star, reported ContactMusic.

She hasn’t even seen Robert play a vampire, not feeling the need to view the Twilight films, and feels that she’s naive when it comes to fame.

”I don’t understand what the levels [of fame] are. I’m a bit naive…. I don’t engage in that world, even with myself, even with my own career,” added the singer.

As the Inquisitr reported, just as Twigs is speaking out against social media abuse, Emma Watson is speaking out about what she sees as the need for gender equality. The actress hopes that her HeForShe campaign will make a difference for women of all ages, as well as men.

“I want men to take up this mantle so their daughters, sisters, and mothers can be free from prejudice, but also so that their sons have permission to be vulnerable and human too — reclaim those parts of themselves they abandoned and in doing so be a more true and complete version of themselves,” said the Harry Potter star.
