NFL rumors about an Aldon Smith and Colin Kaepernick fight got a lot of traction Saturday (August 8). But were these NFL rumors even partially true? A report from TMZ stated that Smith and Kaepernick were involved in an on-field fight as the San Francisco 49ers practiced. It was suggested that the fight could have been over Smith’s ex-girlfriend Nessa, who Kaepernick has reportedly been linked to recently. But even those rumors haven’t been confirmed.
The story from TMZ stated that it all happened during a 49ers practice on Tuesday (August 4), and that players had to pull them apart. It wasn’t revealed whether the two players had exchanged words before or after the incident, but follow-up stories seem to contradict some of the details. One of those stories comes from CBS Sports, where a report states that nothing about an altercation has been confirmed by either player.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Aldon Smith got released by the San Francisco 49ers after an arrest on DUI and hit-and-run charges were leveled against him. This was one of many off-field problems that Smith has had since joining the 49ers, and the front office had apparently had enough. Smith was already a big part of recent NFL news before Colin Kaepernick was added to the situation.
The NFL rumors from CBS Sports had a quote from 49ers receiver Anquan Boldin. He called the report from TMZ false and stated that there was no fight on the field. Boldin even stated that, “I don’t know where that comes from.” He was in part referencing another rumor, where Smith was accused of damaging Kaepernick’s car. Kaepernick, Smith’s agent, and Boldin all refuted that story, showing just how out-of-control the reporting on Smith has become this past week.
What won’t be refuted by NFL analysts this offseason is that the San Francisco 49ers just got even weaker. The team had already lost a host of key players on defense, with several even deciding that it was time to retire from the league. Now the 49ers have lost the best defensive player on the team (Aldon Smith), forcing the coaches to work even harder at putting a good product on the field in 2015. As for NFL rumors that negatively represent the 49ers, fans have got to be tired of hearing news about “the next guy” who won’t be with the team when the regular season begins.
