Woman Undergoes Surgery To Have 360 Gallstones Removed From Gallbladder
An Indian woman recently had a staggering number of gallstones removed from her gallbladder – 360 gallstones to be exact. According to the Daily Mail, Mousumi Dam of Kolkata, West Bengal, discovered the excruciating abdominal pain she’d been suffering from for months wasn’t just a typical stomach ache. She reported suffered prolonged periods of pain and acid reflux sporadically for several months, but when she developed jaundice, she decided that it was time to seek medical attention.
Doctors were able to identify the problem with a medical evaluation and an ultrasound. It has been reported that gallstones were the reason for her sufferance. Doctors scheduled surgery to remove the gallstones from her gallbladder but were quite shocked at the staggering number of stones they discovered during the procedure. According to Opposing Views, doctors have found the massive number of tiny marble-size stones astonishing.

Dr. Makhan Lal Sasha, who performed the surgery, recently revealed the massive number of gallstones is the most he’s seen in his 37-year career as a doctor. He also shared specific details about the surgery, which took nearly an hour to complete.
“I’ve worked as a doctor for nearly 37 years but I’ve never seen so many stones packed in a gallbladder,” said Dr. Sasha, 59, who is a professor of surgery at the hospital. “This is the first time in the medical history of West Bengal that anyone has had a surgery to remove 360 stones. The stones were 5mm in size and it took me 50 minutes to take out every stone. In fact, my hands were numb by the time I removed the last stone. Surprisingly all the stones had [the] same size and shape.”
According to the Detroit News Times, the surgery was a success, and Dam has been discharged. Dr. Sasha stated that his team of medical professionals will be conducting further research to determine what may have caused such a massive influx of gallstones.
