New York Knicks trade rumors now include Carmelo Anthony. The catch is that these Knicks trade rumors have come from Walt (Clyde) Frazier. An interview with ESPN revealed some very interesting answers from the Knicks’ TV color commentator. When asked about how the team selected Kristaps Porzingis in the 2015 NBA Draft, Frazier had a lot to say about Anthony.
“I’m sure Melo wasn’t happy. His future is now. You know, he’s not getting younger. This is going to be a pivotal season for him to see really how he fits into the Knick plans and how this is going to go from here. Will he ask out, you know what I mean, if he sees that this is not happening? Because right now the Knicks, [it’s] going to be tough to make the playoffs. They are a few years away and Melo knows that his days are numbered, so stay tuned.”
Now it’s worth repeating that the New York Knicks trade rumors floating around come directly from Clyde Frazier, and not at all from the front office of the team. Still, he raised an interesting point that has already gained a lot of traction on social media. If the reality is that Carmelo Anthony really is upset and doesn’t see the Knicks competing right away, why wouldn’t he then ask to get traded to a contender?
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, team president Phil Jackson has been hard at work adding roster pieces during the NBA offseason. New players for the Knicks include Robin Lopez, Arron Afflalo, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick Williams. Jackson also traded for rookie Jerian Grant. That move was frowned upon by many analysts until Grant really showcased a plethora of skills at the NBA Summer League.
Last season, the Knicks finished with the worst record in the Eastern Conference at 17-65. The team missed the NBA Playoffs again and finished the season floundering to even keep a healthy rotation on the floor. Coach Derek Fisher is back, Phil Jackson has added new pieces, and All-Star Carmelo Anthony is back to lead the team. But will he remain happy in a rebuilding project if the team struggles early in the coming NBA season? Or are these simple New York Knicks trade rumors going to turn into much more as he continues to watch friends like LeBron James and Russell Westbrook play for NBA titles?
