‘I Killed My Son’ — Pierre Collins Finally Confesses To Dumping His Child In The River, Gets 40 Years

Pierre Collins, a father from Minnesota, has pleaded guilty to the murder of his 10-year-old son. He has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

A previous report from the Inquisitr revealed that Pierre Collins was charged with killing his son Barway Collins and dumping the body in the Mississippi river. For months, the father denied any connection to the boy’s death, despite the evidence linking him to the gruesome murder–namely phone records showing that Pierre Collins was near the river at the time of the murder. But this week, when the charges went to trial, the father finally took full responsibility for the horrific crime and openly confessed, “I killed my son.”

According to the Huffington Post, Pierre Collins confessed in court to hitting his son, binding his feet and torso with duct tape, and dumping the boy into the Mississippi River. Police recovered the body of Barway Collins weeks later.

“I saw him out playing… I was angry. I hit him,” Pierre Collins explained to Judge Tanya Bransford. “He fell… I took him to the river. I duct taped him and threw him in the water.”

When Pierre Collins finally admitted to the crime, several people broke into tears in the court room. The mother of the victim, Louis Karluah, fell out of her chair.

According to MPR News, the motivation behind the murder is still unknown, and Pierre Collins is still not revealing the origin of his malicious intentions. However, Collins and his wife had been struggling financially and recently purchased a life insurance policy on their son. Pierre even called the insurance company to increase the policy from $30,000 to $50,000 two days before Barway Collins went missing.

Regardless of the motive, Pierre Collins’ prison sentence was made especially long due to the vulnerability of his 10-year-old son Barway and the fact that he hid the body in the river.

It is unclear if Barway Collins was dead before he was thrown in the river as a result of his father punching him. The 33-year-old man revealed that his son fell to the ground and “wasn’t responsive, so I took him to the water.” He also admitted to premeditation.

“I intended to kill my son.”

According to the Star Tribune, County Attorney Mike Freeman and Crystal Police Chief Stephanie Revering held a press conference after Pierre Collins was sentenced. Freeman claimed that the guilty plea left him “satisfied” with the outcome of the trial, and that the verdict should bring “some justice for Barway’s family.”
