Duchess Kate Middleton is now a scuba pro. Adding the sport to her list of expertise, which already includes being the proud royal mom of Prince George and Princess Charlotte as well as the perfect wife for Prince William, Duchess Kate chose scuba diving for her new hobby, reported MSN.
Confirmed by Kensington Palace, Duchess Kate became qualified for scuba-diving to 98 feet by passing the qualifications for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors Advanced Open Water Diver qualification. And that means some fun in the future, when Prince William can have Duchess Kate by his side to scuba-dive when they vacation in one of their favorite places, Mustique.
While Duchess Kate’s children are too young to appreciate their mom’s scuba abilities, royal observer Kelly Fisher Katz was impressed by both Kate and William when she had a close encounter of the Duchess and Duke kind on a scuba holiday.
“We went diving and they went very deep,” revealed Kelly. “Our instructor said [my husband] and I weren’t qualified to go on the shark dives that they went on.”
Duchess Kate has become passionate about scuba-diving, according to her spokesperson.
“Diving is something the Duchess very much enjoys, and the Duke of Cambridge, who is of course President of the British Sub-Aqua Club, has said in the past that he is hopeful his children will become interested in the sport,” said Kate’s representative.
To earn her certification, Duchess Kate succeeded in five dives, with most challenging revealing whether she could handle the mental stress of deep scuba experiences. She also proved her expertise with a compass and dive knife.
As for Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge has been passionate about shark-diving for years, and he’s delighted that Duchess Kate is sporty about scuba, reported the Telegraph.
But Prince William and Duchess Kate didn’t go public about her decision to get qualified for deep scuba dives until she completed the qualifications.
“We are thrilled that The Duchess of Cambridge shares her husband’s interest in the underwater world and has further progressed her diver training,” said Eugene Farrell, chairman of the British Sub-Aqua Club. “Last summer while diving with BSAC, The Duke of Cambridge suggested George may also one day follow in his footsteps, so we hope in the future the whole family may share the same passion for scuba diving.”
And it’s not just Duchess Kate who loves sports. As the Inquisitr reported, her sister, Pippa Middleton, recently completed her first marathon.
