Candace Cameron Bure Shares Feelings About New ‘Full House’ Spinoff

As most people know, Full House, the legendary sitcom from the 1990s, is making somewhat of a comeback. Candace Cameron Bure will be reprising her role as D.J. Tanner, all grown up with children of her own, on the new Netflix original series, Fuller House.

The story line will follow the life of the recently widowed D.J., who is now a single mom of two children, with one on the way. Her sister, Stephanie, played by Jodie Sweeten, and best friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber), move in to assist her with raising the children. Sound familiar? Cameron Bure says the feel of the show will follow that of the original, focusing on family friendly entertainment.

Fuller House going to be very similar. That’s something that was very important to all of the producers, Netflix and us. This is a family show.”

Fortunately, all the cast members of the original show are joining Candace Cameron Bure on the new endeavor, except for the Olsen twins, who played Michelle Tanner. Candace says she is sad that Ashley and Mary Kate will not be working with them, but she understands their decision.

“…I totally respect their decision and opinions. They have different lives and haven’t been actresses for a long time. I respect it. But I think we all were really hoping they would.”

In an interview with Cleveland, when asked what it was like getting ready to take on a role she left two decades ago, Candace Cameron Bure mentions that she finds stepping into the old role easy.

“I think it’s going to be pretty easy actually. The perception some people have is that we’re remaking Full House. We’re not. It’s a spinoff. We do have the same characters, but it’s in the present. My character is a 30-something year-old woman who has three children. She’s not a teenager. It’s not like I’m trying to remember what D.J. was like as a teenager. It’s about processing what her life has been like since we last saw her, which was at age 18. So she’s lived a whole lot of life. Now, I get to discover who she is as a woman and as a mom.”

Fuller House recently began filming. Candace Cameron Bure was quite overtaken with emotion the first time she stepped onto the set, reports Fox News.

“I went in and opened that door and I smelled that smell – it was like the floodgates of memories from being 10 to 18 just washed over me, and I just cried! It was sensory overload and nostalgia and memories. It was incredible.”

The reboot will premiere on Netflix in 2016. Stay tuned to see Candace Cameron Bure reprise her role as D.J. Tanner.
