Key Lime Oreo Cookies Sizzle For Summer Sweets As New Oreo Thins Offer Diet Option: How To Burn Off One Oreo [Recipe]


Key lime Oreo cookies are now available to be dunked into your milk. Officially titled Key Lime Pie flavor, the Oreo treats include graham cracker cookies along with the citrus-flavored filing, reported People.

The key lime Oreos scented up supermarket aisles almost at the same time as Nabisco unveiled Oreo Thins, set to roll onto shelves July 13.

And although the announcement of Key Lime Pie Oreos was made with minimal publicity, fans are reacting in a major way by crumbling the cookies to create Key Lime pie crusts.

Not into key lime flavor for your Oreo cookies? Other Oreo flavors are available, with varying taste test results, according to Time Out Chicago.

Since 1912, when it was introduced as a Hydrox clone, Oreos have ranked number one on the list of best-selling cookies. Variations have included replacing lard with partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, followed by a shift to non-hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Flavors range from Double Stuf to Mint Oreo to Peanut Butter. There’s the golden cookie versus chocolate cookie Oreo sandwich cookie debate, as well as the seasonal favorites, such as Spring Oreos.

Another option recently was revealed by Honey Boo Boo, who shared that she adores deep-fried Oreos, as the Inquisitr reported.

“I love a lot of stuff deep-fried,” said Honey Boo Boo blissfully. “I love deep-fried Oreos.”

For those who are purists and worried about offending someone by frying Oreos or crushing those key lime Oreos for use in a pie, Oreo itself offers a variety of recipes on its Web site.

And if you can’t find key lime flavored Oreo cookies near you, there’s also a recipe to make OREO® Key Lime Pie, shown below.

Ingredients

  • 18 Reduced Fat OREO Cookies, finely crushed
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
  • 1-3/4 cups boiling water
  • 1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Lime Flavor Gelatin
  • 2 tsp. grated lime zest
  • 2 Tbsp. lime juice
  • 2 cups thawed COOL WHIP FREE Whipped Topping

Instructions

  • MIX cookie crumbs and butter; press firmly onto bottom and up side of 9-inch pie plate.
  • STIR boiling water into gelatin in medium bowl at least 3 minutes until completely dissolved. Stir in lime zest and juice. Refrigerate 30 to 45 minutes or until slightly thickened.
  • ADD whipped topping; stir gently with wire whisk until well blended. Refrigerate 15 minutes or until mixture will mound. Spoon into crust. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or until firm.

Stressed about the calories? The new Oreo Thins are lower in calories and more sophisticated, reported NBC New York.

Designed to be eaten as is rather than dunked or twisted, the diet cookies have 140 calories per four-cookie serving. That’s versus 160 calories in three standard-size Oreos.

And if you want to eat an Oreo without the guilt, you can do it by following it up with a workout, according to the Calorie King.

If you choose one of the varieties that have 40 calories per sandwich cookie, you can walk for 10 minutes, jog for five minutes, swim for three minutes, or cycle for five minutes.
