Simon Cowell’s Mother Dies, Julie Cowell Was 89, ‘X Factor’ Auditions Canceled


Julie Cowell, the mother of music mogul Simon Cowell, has died at the age of 89.

Simon Cowell was reported to be obviously devastated at the death of his mother. A statement announcing her death was made on Sunday, adding that Cowell and the rest of his family would “miss her terribly.”

Julie Cowell had spent a short time in a London hospital recently, and a family source revealed to The Sun, via the Mirror, that she died from a stroke.

According to the Mirror, the family’s statement announced the death.

“Today our beloved mum Julie passed away. Anyone who had met her would know what a truly special and kind lady she was. We are heartbroken and will miss her terribly, but she is now at peace.”

The insider went on to add that since the death of Julie Cowell, Simon has been in constant contact with his three brothers Nicholas, Simon, Tony, and Michael.

They added, “His mum was the most beloved person in his life and they were incredibly close. But at least she got to see him settle down and start a family which was one of the great wishes of her life.”

Tony Cowell, the younger brother of Simon Cowell who is a recognized author, journalist and reporter, took to his Twitter account to mourn the loss of his mother.

According to Manchester Evening News, the death of Julie Cowell meant that the auditions for The X Factor in Manchester were postponed on Sunday, and it’s believed that they will now be held on Tuesday.

The X Factor’s new line-up of Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Nick Grimshaw, and Rita Ora were going to kick-start the new series of the talent show. These auditions had previously been due to run between Monday and Wednesday.

A source for The Sun said that there was never any doubt that the auditions would be delayed because of the news. They added, “Everyone at X Factor is devastated for Simon and there was no suggestion that filming would go ahead. ”
