Groom & Guests Arrested: Drunken Brawl At Wedding Gets Groom, Six Guests Arrested

A groom and six guests were arrested in Pennsylvania after a drunken brawl broke out at a wedding. According to the New York Daily News, things got out of control at the wedding of Nicholas Papoutsis and his bride. The report indicates that the fight started when someone noticed that a 14-year-old was drunk. A woman started reprimanding the teen’s mom, and the mom ended up getting violent, punching the other woman in the face. Another wedding guest tried to step in and break up the fight, but he ended up getting attacked.

Things escalated from there, and police were called to the scene.

“When cops showed up to calm the fracas in Ontelaunee Township, the groom challenged the officers to a fight, Northern Berks Regional Police Chief Scott Eaken [said]. It took about 25 cops from 16 departments around Berks County to break up the marriage melee.”

Aside from the groom and his guests getting arrested, the 14-year-old had to be taken to the hospital. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.16 percent. The bride was also taken to the hospital where she was treated for alcohol poisoning.

And it didn’t stop there.

Several people were charged by police, including one man who reportedly grabbed an officer’s crotch in an effort from keeping police from entering the wedding venue.

“The groom was charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with the administration of law and public drunkenness. The teen boy’s parents, Mandi and Jesse Groh, were arrested for furnishing alcohol to minors, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and other charges. The man who grabbed the cop’s crotch, Brian Pelker, was charged with aggravated assault, obstructing administration of law and public drunkenness. Three more guests — William Papoutsis Jr., Jessie Papoutsis and Fabian Burgos — were also booked on charged related to the melee.”

The groom and guests arrested at the wedding were completely unruly. According to the Huffington Post, police didn’t expect the brawl to continue once they arrived or for wedding guests to challenge them to fight, but these people were seriously drunk. Police had no choice but to take people into custody.

“It was messy for a little while, that’s for sure. We went there with the intent of telling everyone to leave and go home, but that unfortunately didn’t happen,” said Northern Berks Regional Police Chief Scott Eaken.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, police were required to use force on some of the wedding guests. The bride and groom will never forget their reception, that’s for sure.
