‘Reign’ Season 3: Did CW Cut Show’s Episode Order Ahead Of Production?
Fans of Reign are waiting for the premiere of Season 3, but there are new rumors circulating this weekend that put the future of the series in jeopardy. The CW did order a 22-episode season for Reign Season 3 earlier this year, but that order may have been quietly reduced just days before production is set to begin on the new season.
Spoiler TV shared the latest on a potential episode order cut after it saw paperwork that named the production dates for Reign’s third season. The series will start production on June 30. Torrance Combs confirmed that information on his Twitter earlier this month.

However, the new paperwork shows the end date for production, and it is very telling. Spoiler TV reported on what they learned.
“ACTRA Toronto is now listing Reign’s production dates as beginning on June 30 and ending on December 2nd, far shorter than a full season. For comparison, the 2nd season filmed from July 2014 till April 2015.”
An end date of December 2 could mean the season order has been cut in half. Spoiler TV did reach out to their contacts at The CW, but they have not commented on the information. However, it could be the Christmas hiatus for the series.
Reign has done well following The Vampire Diaries on Thursday night, but The Originals will return for Season 3 and reclaim the Thursday night time slot. Season 3 of Reign will air on Friday nights.
There are some big changes ahead on Reign as well. Queen Elizabeth has arrived, and she will shake things up in a big way during Reign Season 3. According to Vine Report, Jonathan Keltz, the actor behind Leith, spoke about the upcoming season in a recent interview.
“This is a show that will continue to evolve. There will be new people arriving, there will be old people departing- and I don’t mean old as in old age. Season three is going to bring a lot. It’s already been written about and we have a [Queen] Elizabeth joining the show and that alone is going to change what it is that we see in the world that we [already] see… I think there are definitely some really exciting times ahead for the gang.”
A short video released by The CW also teases the drama ahead. Laurie McCarthy revealed that fans will see both queens battle to keep power and love on the upcoming season.
