Game Of Thrones: What Shocking Finale Means For The Next Season

The Game of Thrones Season 5 Finale blew everyone’s minds. (Warning: stop reading this if you haven’t watched the Game Thrones Season 5 Finale). One of the main characters, Jon Snow, got the life stabbed out of him by his Night watch brothers. This caused a lot of armchair outrage on Twitter

The death of Jon Snow left us with one question: what’s going to happen in the next season?

Luckily, if you didn’t already know, Game of Thrones is based on a series of incredibly popular fantasy books and most of the time, they can at least hint at what will happen to the characters on TV. So, read on to see if your favorite character makes it to the end.

As Kim Renfro of Business Insider writes, Jon Snow’s death scene is written near the end of the most recent installment in the series, A Dance With Dragons, published in 2011. That was the last book readers saw of him but fans of the books have been diligently scraping together evidence of what could have happened to him. Based on many GOT related forum post, the prognosis on Jon Snow is pretty optimistic.

Most of that is based on one very important factor: warging.

In the Game of Thrones universe, warging is the ability to infiltrate the mind of another being, whether human or animal.

Fans of both the book and TV series will remember that each Stark child, including Jon, adopted a direwolf puppy way back in Season 1. Never forget that the direwolf is the sigil of the House of Stark. After the second youngest Stark brother, Bran is hurt after a push from the tower, this warging power seems to have been triggered. Season 4 saw him learning the wisdom of “warging” and his power, also referred to as “skinchanging” seems inherently linked to his direwolf. Bran is able to enter the wolf’s body when necessary.

This could mean that Jon was able to slip into his direwolf’s body and thereby evade death, at least that’s the theory. It’s the one of the few threads of hope fans are holding on to.

The author of the series, George R.R Martin has also given fans a beacon of hope as well.

When asked about Jon’s death around the release of A Dance with Dragons, George mischievously replied, “Oh, you think he’s dead, do you?”

Entertainment Weekly asked Kit Harington, the actor who plays Jon, about the scene where his character is slaughtered and. Harington claims he is not returning to the show. He was told by the show writers: “Look, you’re gone, it’s done.”

But it wouldn’t be the first time show creators hid the fate of a character from the actor. So, we’ll just have to wait and see.
