Demi Lovato Premieres New Video ‘Give Your Heart A Break’

Demi Lovato‘s new single “Give Your Heart A Break” focuses on a rocky relationship that the singer tries to keep together. She explains the premise by telling MTV news that:

“The new music video, I’m basically trying to convince a guy that I didn’t break his heart, and we get into a fight and I try to win him over again…I do something special for him at the end of the song.”

The song is a welcome break from the norm, showing that couples can work out, instead of sticking with either a break up theme, or a theme where the happy couple’s world is always perfect.

The video debuts with Demi speaking with her video boyfriend on the phone, about something serious. She then begins to look at pictures of the two of them during happier times.

Demi Lovato explained the video to to E!’s Giuliana Rancic, saying:

“The song is about not wanting to break the other person’s heart, and really letting them know that you’re not in this to play games, or to hurt them—just that you’re there to love them.”

The song is her second single off the album Unbroken, which she describes as “upbeat and uplifting.” She states that:

“I didn’t want to come out with this depressing album. I think it’s important that I kept a lot of my heart open on the album because I talked about my personal issues…but I also had some fun dance songs on there for people to enjoy.”
