WWE News: WWE NXT Star Kevin Owens Signing A Main Roster Contract Could Bring Samoa Joe To WWE Exclusively

WWE NXT star Kevin Owens has made quite an impact in his small tenure with WWE. He officially started with the WWE in late 2014 and made a huge impact at the beginning of this year, taking the WWE NXT Championship and defending it several times. A couple of weeks back, Kevin Owens made himself known when he took out WWE mainstay John Cena. That led to the two having a “champion vs. champion” match at this Sunday’s Elimination Chamber.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Kevin Owens, despite being NXT Champion, has signed a main roster contract and is scheduled for every WWE RAW going forward. He will soon be added to the non-televised live events and tours. So what does this mean for his NXT run?

WWE is planning to use Kevin Owens on the main roster, but they are going to slowly transition him out of NXT. He has to drop the NXT Championship to someone. The idea is that he will face off with Samoa Joe at the next NXT special, where he will drop the title to him. According to Cageside Seats, if WWE does decide to have Samoa Joe take the title soon, he will be signed to an exclusive deal with the company.

Joe KO

WWE was already thinking about signing him to an exclusive deal since Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and several other major Indy companies are slowly getting television deals. On top of this, they don’t want to risk him getting hurt outside of WWE and risking problems with storylines in the company. While WWE is the priority for him right now, there is still a lot to risk with him on the Indy scene, and that may be too tough for WWE to ignore soon.

If Joe is given the NXT Championship, he certainly will be full-time with WWE. For now, though, that is the only way it’ll be guaranteed. The company is also planning to do more touring, so obviously Samoa Joe would be added to this. Kevin Owens might very well do some NXT touring himself. With him being more main roster oriented, though, chances are that he won’t work NXT material too much longer.

WWE plans to push Kevin Owens well after the Elimination Chamber PPV. He’ll need to drop the NXT title before he can do what WWE has happened, but there is a theory that he could win Money in the Bank while still holding the title. While this is not set in stone, WWE plans to push him well, and giving him the briefcase would be a way to build him going forward. We will have to see what they decide as it comes about.
