Grand Forks Wal-Mart Shooting: Two Dead In North Dakota Shooting

Grand Forks Wal-Mart shooting has left two dead, the gunman and one other person.

The North Dakota shooting took place early Tuesday morning at a Wal-Mart Supercenter store in Grand Forks, according to the Associated Press.

Lt. Derik Zimmel said the shooter was the only person with a gun and no police officers fired their weapons. He did not, however, reveal that the gunman had shot himself, or how exactly he died. All he would say is that he was among the two individuals who were killed. Several other people at the store also suffered injuries from the incident.

“We do not believe there is any further risk to the public,” Zimmel said.

Officers responded to the reports of gunshots at a little after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26. Deputy Police Chief Mike Ferguson said that the officers discovered “multiple victims,” and several of them were taken to a nearby hospital, according to Fox News. The officers have declined to release the identities of the victims, and have not suggested what prompted the shooter to carry out his actions.

According to WDAZ, the SWAT team started sweeping the store at approximately 3 a.m. A BCI crime lab was also on the scene. Police officials had every road possible blocked off around the store.

Reporter Catherine Ross spoke with Andy Legg, a customer at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at the time, who said he heard “popping sounds” echoing in the store. Authorities then herded Legg and a group of customers to a section of the store. The group later exited the building, and passed an employee, who was covered in blood. While Legg said he didn’t know the employee’s immediate condition, he said they “didn’t look good.”

The shooter has been confirmed to be a Grand Forks Air Force Base Airman. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is currently working with the Grand Forks police department on the case.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
