The Warriors lead the series 3-0 after their 115-80 blowout win over Houston on Saturday, a game which featured a spectacular 40-point outburst from NBA league MVP Stephen Curry. But with victory seemingly coming easily to Curry and the Warriors, could they be in danger of an emotional letdown that could allow Houston to creep back into the series, starting with a win on Monday?
Curry, for one, doesn’t think so.
“It’s easy for us to stay hungry because none of us have really experienced this before or accomplished really anything,” the 27-year-old who was the Warriors first-round pick in 2009 — seventh overall — said after Saturday’s massive victory.
The same could be said for the Golden State franchise as a whole. Since moving to the San Francisco Bay Area from Philadelphia in 1962, the Warriors have made only three trips to the NBA Finals — two of them coming in their first five years as the San Francisco Warriors.
The franchise did not actually claim its first and, so far, only NBA Championship until 1975, its fourth year with “Golden State” replacing “San Francisco” in the team’s name.
That championship Warriors team was led by Hall-of-Famer Rick Barry, who averaged an incredible 30.6 points per game for the season. Curry won the MVP this year averaging 23.8 points per game.
