This Five-Year-Old’s Letter To The President Focuses On The Big Issues

A five-year-old girl, Yasmeen, wrote a letter to the president, and it’s going viral, thanks in part to President Obama’s new Twitter account, and in part to the letter itself. Yasmeen’s aunt tweeted photos of the letter to President Obama’s @POTUS handle, and he tweeted back to agree with the kid’s policy suggestions, drawing more attention to the letter, which has now been retweeted thousands of times.

“Out of the mouths of babes,” says proud aunt Dr. Fahmida Zaman, sending the letter to the president’s Twitter handle. She should be proud — this kid has picked two issues that are important to her, and wants the president to focus!

Here’s the tweet from Yasmeen’s auntie.

Below, you can see the full-sized images of the letter itself:

Letter to President Obama from 5yo girl

Five-Year-Old's letter to the president.

The young concerned citizen’s penmanship is quite good, but in case you can’t read kindergartner, here’s what she’s said. The letter is addressed as follows.

“Dear President Barack Obama”

The sender is self-described as follows.

“Yaasmeen
I am 5
almost 6 years old”

One corner exhorts the reader to “open.”

Inside, the letter to President Obama carries two separate messages.

The first request Yasmeen has for the president is as follows.

“Please stop war for our world, instead have a meeting.”

She’s not just seeking peace, though. She wants President Obama to make marriage equality happen, too.

“Please give a speech to tell everyone they can marry who they want.”

(In this, at least, she may see her wish answered soon. The Supreme Court will hand down a ruling in the coming weeks!)

Yasmeen closes her letter to the president with a polite conclusion.

“Thank you”

Yasmeen picked the right President to send her missive (or, perhaps, the timing was just right), because she got a firm agreement from the POTUS.

So far, we’ve seen some pretty negative behavior with regard to President Obama’s Twitter account, so this is a particularly pleasant change.

In the short time the Presidential Twitter has been up and running, we’ve seen it progress from adults engaging in name-calling, to a snapshot of perhaps the youngest citizen to get involved in politics to date! It’s good to know that there are citizens who care, preparing for their first vote three election cycles from now.

How sweet was Yasmeen’s letter to the president?
