Mariah Carey either showed the young ones how it’s done or should be done period. It depends on who you talk to. Her performance of “Vision of Love” and “Infinity” both excited and disgusted people. In other words, it’s a win for Mariah Carey since the performance, like many recent ones of hers, wasn’t a total disaster. Entertainment Weekly says Mariah is still the reigning vocalist.
“The 45-year-old, who canceled a performance last week because of a bout of bronchitis, started with a pitch-perfect rendition of ‘Vision Of Love’—her first No. 1, which turned 25 on Friday—before segueing into her most recent single, ‘Infinity.’ The song has a long way to go before topping any charts, but Carey gave it as rousing of a performance as the track that put her in the map two decades ago.”
The reviewer goes on to note that even though Mariah was surrounded by current stars half her age, she proved she still reigns supreme. Unfortunately, the Hollywood Life thought Ms. Carey sounded off-key .
“The one and only Mariah Carey , 46, brought all of her delicious divaness to her performance at The Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 17! Unfortunately, the once flawless songbird struggled as she sang her brand new song ‘Infinity’ as well as her classic slow dance hit from 1990 ‘Vision of love’”
Music Times thinks that the elusive chanteuse struggled with the high notes, even though the performance wasn’t a total disaster .
“She was flanked by a team of six backup singers who provided balance to the performance. Carey did her best performing the track, hitting most of the peaks of the song and getting the crowd into it, but you could tell she struggled with the highest notes. But that wasn’t for a lack of trying. She was not shy to go for it towards the end of ‘Infinity.’”
Unfortunately for Mariah Carey, Twitter was less than kind.

Ms. Carey will be happy to know that her fans tried their best to defend her on Twitter, a breeding ground for negativity. Thankfully, the negative tweets were more about Carey’s performance than the usual age-shaming and body-shaming posts. According to TMZ , Mariah blew off the rehearsals for tonight’s performance. Perhaps Carey could have earned universal praise had she practiced more. Mariah Carey will next perform this coming Wednesday evening and fans are hoping her voice will be in top form after a show was cancelled last week.
