California Teen Fights Off Sexual Predator In Her Home In Broad Daylight

A California teen acted very bravely when a man approached her and then forced his way into her home and attempted to assault her in broad daylight.

Authorities in northern California say that the 13-year-old girl was making her way home Tuesday afternoon in San Jose, California, when a man approached her. After a little small talk, he forced his way into the home and attempted to sexually assault her. According to ABC News, the entire encounter was caught on the home’s surveillance camera.

In the video, the man can be seen forcing his way into the home and then attacking the young girl. He pushed her into the foyer and attempted to sexually assault her, but the girl managed to fight back, pushing him away and slamming her hand into his face.

“That’s when I decided to run inside the house because [I’d] already unlocked it,” the middle-school student told KGO-TV. “I tried to slam the door on him but I couldn’t.”

After a brief pause, the man decided to take off, leaving the girl in the foyer. The California teen then reportedly looked for an item to defend herself and hid in a closet, fearing that the man would return.

She then texted her father, “Daddy, come home now. Some guy tried to rape me.”

“She is a very brave young girl,” said Sgt. Enrique Garcia of the San Jose Police Department. “She was very much aware that something was wrong.”

According to Mercury News, this isn’t the first time the man tried to sexually assault a woman. On April 2, around 1 p.m. officers responded to the Mitsuwa Market at Saratoga and Moorpark avenues on a report of another attempted sexual assault, this time on a 28-year-old woman. The man reportedly followed the woman into the public restroom and attempted to assault her there, according to police.

“They are survivors,” Garcia said of the victims. “It is our job to stop him.”

Police have released photos of the suspect from both locations and are now asking the public for help in identifying and capturing him before he attempts to assault another individual.

When asked if he believed the man would attack again, Garcia said, “Without a doubt. These guys are predators.”

While the California teen managed to not only survive but escape the attempted sexual assault, she says she is still very shaken up.

“I’m really happy I’m safe, but I’m still really scared. I’m really low on trusting the outside world anymore.”

Police are asking anyone with information on the attacker to contact detective Brandon Scholten of the San Jose Police Department’s sexual assault investigations unit at 408-277-4102 and anyone wishing to remain anonymous to call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 408-947-7867.
