Sheriffs arrested a mother for recklessly drunk driving with her child in the vehicle. Hillary Regester was reported driving drunk in a silver Ford Taurus into the path of oncoming traffic and all over the road. Eventually, sheriffs were able to catch up and apprehend her before anyone was seriously hurt.
At 2:30 p.m., the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office received a number of calls from people reporting the 28-year-old was driving recklessly and erratically, swerving all over the road like a drunk driver.
According to Palestine Herald-Press‘ coverage of the incident, drunk driving Hillary Regester eventually stopped her vehicle after a high-speed chase by Investigator Sgt. Herman Linam.
After receiving calls about Regester’s erratic drunk driving, Investigator Sgt. Linam started searching for her and the vehicle and eventually found them with a line of traffic behind, driving around 30 miles per hour, swerving in and out of lanes, just like a drunk driver.
Sgt. Linam attempted to try to stop the woman, but she ignored his requests, turned her car around, and headed in the opposite direction. As Sgt. Linam continued in his pursuit to stop Regester, the mother was so drunk she paid no attention and refused to stop.
The investigator had to call for additional units because Hillary’s refusal to stop the vehicle led to a drunk driving, high-speed chase with speeds up to 75 miles per hour.
Eventually, Hillary ended up stopping the car right in the middle of the road. Sgt. Linam approached Regester and had no trouble in determining whether she was driving drunk. The investigator called the dispatcher for backup.
Sgt. Linam also discovered a small child that appeared to be less than one-year-old, sitting in a car seat in the car. Later, Sgt. Linam received assistance from Department of Public Safety Officer Trooper Jones.
Trooper Jones performed field sobriety tests on Hillary Regester, which she ended up failing. The trooper charged the mother with a DWI — driving while under the influence. Officials contacted the young child’s grandmother who eventually came to retrieve the child.
Sheriffs arrested Hillary Regester and ultimately booked her in Anderson County Jail. The mother was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child less than 15 years of age.
On Friday, Hillary Regester appeared in court at 9:30 a.m. for drunk driving and faced Judge James Todd. Regester was released on a $5,000 bond.
