Liza Minnelli is hoping that her recent time in rehab will revitalize her stage career. After spending time inside a treatment center for substance abuse, Liza is excited about resuming her relationship with her fans by performing in a concert, reported Playbill.
“Liza is home and doing great. She is very excited to get back on-stage and to see her fans again,” revealed her spokesman Scott Gorenstein.
Minnelli scheduled her initial performance at the IP Casino Resort Spa in Biloxi, MS on July 24.
But although the daughter of Judy Garland loves the energy from such concerts, she also has been recognized for film performances such as Cabaret, for which she earned an Academy Award. In addition, Liza has won Tony awards, including a special one in 1974 for “adding lustre to the Broadway season.”
Liza checked into a Malibu rehab facility in March, according to TMZ.
“[She made] excellent progress,” said a spokesperson for Minnelli.
The 69-year-old actress, like her mother, has struggled with alcoholism, and been in and out of rehabilitation for years.
“Liza has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years,” added her representative.
However, Minnelli rejected the opportunity to get help (and half a million dollars) by participating in Celebrity Rehab in 2010.
But because of Liza’s history of substance abuse, she was asked to help stage an intervention for Lindsay Lohan, according to Radar Online.
Lindsay’s friend Claus Hjelmbak was the one who reached out to Liza, said a source.
“Claus was desperate to do anything to try and save Lindsay’s life. He was so concerned for her well-being because of her continued use of prescription pills and booze. He reached out to Liza Minnelli’s camp, in the hope that she could help. Liza has battled her own demons with alcohol and has been very supportive publicly of Lindsay.”
In addition, Lohan respects Liza, giving Claus hope that the 69-year-old actress could appeal to his friend.
“Claus thought that if anyone could get through to Lindsay, Liza could be that person,” added the insider.
Like Lindsay, Liza previously went to the Betty Ford Center. But Minnelli emphasized that she avoids saying that she’s recovered.
“I will tell you this,” declared Liza. “It’s been a long, long time (since my last drink). I’m a recovering alcoholic, though. I will never say, ‘I’ve recovered.'”
In contrast, as the Inquisitr reported, Keeping Up With The Kardashians TV star Scott Disick has decided to try a controversial rehab treatment that claims to cure addicts.
That clinic, Rythmia Life Advancement Center, released a press release announcing that Scott had chosen to go there because it used a hallucinogenic drug to attempt to “cure” addiction.
“I realize my issues are bigger than me and I’m ready to truly remedy this struggle I continue to battle,” Scott was quoted in the press release from the clinic. “Rythmia’s rehab approach puts my worries at ease.”
