Angel Babcock, Indiana Baby Found in Field After Tornado, Dies

Angel Babcock, the 15-month-old “miracle girl” found alone in an Indiana field after Friday’s tornadoes, died after being taken off life support on Sunday.

The grandparents and doctors had earlier decided to remove Angel from life support due to the severity of her injuries.

“I had my arm around her when she took her last breath,” Kathy Babcock, the baby’s grandmother, told ABC News. “I sang to her, ‘Itsy-bitsy spider.'”

Officials say that Angel was originally found alive after being picked up by a tornado and deposited in a nearby field on Friday.

Her parents, Joe and Moriah Babcock, died instantly when the powerful tornado flattened their home; so too did her brother Jaydon, 2 years, and sister Kendall, 2 months.

Speaking from his bed at the University of Louisville Hospital, a neighbor of the Babcocks, Jason Miller, told NBC’s “Today” show today that he saw the family outside as the storm was bearing down and took them into his home. As the tornado hit, they took shelter in the hallway, grabbed hands and began praying.

Miller said he remembers being sucked up into the air but blacked out soon after. His arm, back and five ribs were broken.

“It’s very saddening to hear that the whole [Babcock] family passed away and I was sitting right there holding their hands two seconds before they died,” Miller said.

The death of Angel Babcock brings the death toll to 39 across five states that were hit by tornados late last week.

A state of emergency was in effect in western Kentucky, where 20 people were killed by the dozens of tornados that ravaged the area Friday, leaving many cities looking like warzones.
