The ‘Fresh Prince’ pregnancy rap has gone viral!
A video of a couple rapping the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song for their pregnancy announcement has gone viral, making its way across social media.
Jesse Meek and his wife, Melissa, posted the video on April 5, and it was an instant hit, garnering more than one million views. They wanted a fun way to tell their friends and family members that they were expecting, so they decided to make a video.
“So we said let’s do a song, or a rap, think of something to do,” Mellisa said. “And I just started playing around with some words and the Fresh Prince tune kept coming to mind and then Jesse said he was doing the same thing and the same tune was coming to his mind.”
“We love to do that kind of stuff,” Jesse Meek told OregonLive. “We consider ourselves goofy and fun.”
While on their way to Jesse’s mother’s house on Easter, the couple took turns rapping the cheesy lyrics, and they filmed the whole scene by taping Jesse’s phone to the dash of the car. They never thought that their silly video would take the Internet by storm.
“[The reaction] was completely unexpected. Like, that was the last thing we thought would happen, that it would blow up to what it had, or what it has,” Melissa told WSEE.
Check out the lyrics below (they alternate each verse).
“In Happy Valley, Oregon, living and wed, bought our first house and started to build our homestead.
We told one little lie and said, ‘We’re not ready yet,’ parents said ‘We’re ready for grandkids, so get a move on it!’
I woke up in the morning about seven or eight, and I thought to myself, ‘Oh man, I’m late!’ Looked at the test stick it was finally there. A little plus sign – we’re now three, not a pair!”
At the end of the video, Jesse and Melissa both smile at the camera as Melissa holds a photo of her ultrasound.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
