Matt Cassel, Chiefs QB, Helps Save Woman From Burning House

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel is being called a hero after he reportedly helped save a woman whose home was on fire.

According to ESPN, Cassel, who lives in the Village of Loch Lloyd, Mo., a gated community, ran to a neighbor’s house to alert a woman after his wife noticed smoke and flames coming from the chimney.

Witnesses said the QB knocked and rang the doorbell to get the attention of the woman inside, then ran around the house until he saw her come out. She later said she had no idea her home was burning until Cassel showed up.

“I know Matt wouldn’t want this kind of attention, but I definitely think he was a hero last night,” one witness told local news KMBC 9.

The humble and laid-back Cassel downplayed his actions, saying,

“I just ran up to the house and alerted them. The real heroes are the firefighters.”

No one was injured in the fire, but the house suffered significant damage, fire marshals said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to KMBC.

What are your thoughts on Matt Cassel‘s heroic efforts? Is it refreshing to hear a story where an athlete isn’t involved in some sort of criminal activity?
