Swizz Beatz Loves MegaUpload, But He’s Not the CEO [Video]

Swizz Beatz loves MegaUpload but he is not involved with the company. After the Federal Government shutdown the giant file sharing site and put out warrants for seven owners, speculation about Swizz Beat’s involvement with the company began to swirl around the internet.

Beatz, real name Kasseem Dean, was named the CEO of Megaupload after producing a viral video for the company. But according to Forbes and the Washington Post, the title had no actual bearing on the company. Dean’s CEO title was either honorary, a joke, or was just too recent to land his name in official company documents.

Beatz released a video in December that featured several celebrities singing their praises for Megaupload. Forbes is skeptical that Swizz Beatz made the video for free, but if he was paid, it looks like it was off the books.

Here’s the video Swizz Beatz made for MegaUpload.

Forbes reports that Swizz Beatz was not one of the seven MegaUpload shareholders who were indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice and his name does not appear anywhere in the 72-page indictment. If Beatz was truly named as CEO, the arrests came before he was given any equity in the company.

Rolling Stone reports that Megaupload was shut down for violating privacy laws. According to the indictment, Megaupload was generating $175 million in income while costing copyright holders $500 million.

The indictment comes a day after much of the internet went on strike against legislation designed to protect copyright holders. The hacking group Anonymous attacked the Department of Justice, RIAA, and the MPAA within minutes of the Megaupload seizure.
