8-Year-Old Girl Raped And Murdered, Residents Blame A Demon Despite Apprehension Of Abductor [Video]

An 8-year-old girl was the victim of rape and murder in Bengaluru, India, on Thursday. Her abduction was captured on a CCTV camera as she played in the Bengaluru rural district while her parents were working.

The video shows a man playing with the girl on the dirt path before luring her into a car shed where her body was later found. A nearby gas station shared the video with the parents, leading to the eventual apprehension of the suspect. Despite capturing the man responsible, residents still fear allowing their children to play outside, citing that a rakshasa, or demon, was responsible.

According to NDTV, police were on the hunt for the man suspected of raping and killing an 8-year-old girl in the Bengaluru Rural district of Hoskote. Her parents arrived home from work and could not find their daughter. After a short and frantic search, they found her body in a car shed. She was nearly nude and was obviously raped.

Footage from a nearby gas station showed the young girl playing on the dirt path before she was approached by a man. He played with her shortly, possibly to gain her trust, then led her into a nearby car shed. Inside, he raped and murdered her. According to a senior policeman in charge, she was smothered after being raped.

“The assailant smothered her to death after raping her. We suspect the killer is someone known to the victim’s family.”

Footage from the incident, although grainy and black and white, was used to identify the suspect, leading to his eventual capture. According to B. Ramesh, a senior police officer, the man spoke the local language, but was not a local, reports the New India Express. Although it was suspected that the man knew the family of the little girl, it has not been officially released if the suspicion is true.

Although the man has been captured, residents are still fearful about allowing their children to play outside unsupervised. One resident shared her concern that the town may be tarnished by the killing, blaming it on a demon.

“A rakshasa (demon) has done this crime. What will people who come here to make a living think of us?”

Another resident questioned allowing children outside to play alone after the horrific rape and murder.

“How can we let our children out to play for even a few minutes?”
