Angelina Jolie ‘Deserves To Be Punched In The Face Repeatedly’?

Angelina Jolie has had box office success this Christmas with her film, Unbroken, but some of the critics have been less than kind to Jolie’s performance as director. One in particular went as far as to say the sexy star of the silver screen and wife to Brad Pitt deserved to be “punched in the face repeatedly like the poor unfortunate character in the brilliant story that she ruined with her disastrous film direction.”

Singer and announcer Wayne Messmer’s Twitter exploded after the comments about Jolie, and he finally relented and clarified his position on his original comments regarding Angelina, noting he never meant for anyone to take his words literally. His apology and explanation of remarks is posted in full on his Facebook page, including the following excerpt.

“Immediately after viewing the film Unbroken, this past weekend with extremely high hopes and expectations, I overreacted by expressing my disappointment with the film adaptation and direction of this amazingly powerful book by using a harsh bit of criticism in the form of sarcasm to express my dislike of the movie. In a rash moment, I posted a message on FB. This comment was unfortunately singled out and taken out of context. It never should have written [sic], let alone posted. For that, I humbly apologize. I do want to make something absolutely clear. I never called for anyone to literally strike Ms. Jolie or anyone else in real life.”

Angelina Jolie herself hasn’t chimed in on the matter publicly, and given Messmer’s follow up, we’ll not likely hear from her on the matter. Angelina has been making the rounds promoting the film and attending screenings since missing the premiere due to a case of the chicken pox.

Unbroken is the true story of World War II hero Louis Zamperini, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 97 after collaborating with Jolie to tell his story on the screen. After drifting at sea 47 days in a lifeboat after a plane crash, he was taken as a prisoner of war by the Japanese.

While some critics have been harsh about Angelina Jolie’s performance as director of the film, Zamperini had nothing but kind words for Jolie during their collaboration.

“Angelina is a human dynamo, and I know she will tell this story in the right way,” Zamperini told People magazine in October.

Angelina Jolie doesn’t seem too upset by the comments, but if she is, they say living well is the best revenge: Unbroken was the number one film on Christmas and earned over $46 million at the box office in its first weekend of release.
