The Teletubbies sun baby has been revealed. According to the Huffington Post, 19-year-old Jess Smith, a student at Canterbury Christ Church University came forward, and identified herself as the giggly sun baby from the show.
“So I’ve recently celebrated my 19th birthday and after a lot of thought, I’ve decided it’s time to tell everyone. I used to hide it but after a lot of encouragement from my friends at university, I’ve gained the confidence to come out with it. I am the sun from ‘Teletubbies.’ There has been quite a few people pretending to be ‘the sun’ but only I could tell you the real story.”
Many have claimed to be the Teletubbies sun baby, but Jess Smith was able to prove that she was, in fact, cast in the show. Along with her story, Smith shared a letter from Courtyard Productions, which was written to her mom in 1996. According to Yahoo! News, the teen looks very similar to when she was a baby, and many can see the correlation between the sun baby, and the college student.
“Everyone says they can see the likeness between my face now and me as a baby. I still have a baby face. I haven’t changed much either. I am still giggly,” Smith said.
According to the Telegraph, Jess’ father, Bill, made her do her ever-famous giggle by playing with a teddy bear. It’s unknown if the Teletubbies sun baby will be replaced, as the show is set to be revamped in the coming year. There will be 60 new episodes airing on BBC sometime in the not-so-distant future.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there have been several rumors about who played the show’s sun baby. Laguna Beach star Jessica Smith was rumored to be the star, even though she isn’t British — and was about 10-years-old at the time the show was filmed.
“I’m not sure why the actress is claiming to be the face or why people think she is. She would have been 10 at the time of filming – and she doesn’t even look like the baby,” said the real Jess Smith.
Do you think the real Jess Smith looks like the baby in the sun? Were you ever curious about who played the baby on Teletubbies?
