Grumpy Cat Owner Debunks Report Of $99.5 Million Earnings

A previous article from the Inquisitr reported that the internet sensation known as Grumpy Cat earned $99.5 million over the course of two years. That amount supposedly placed the feline higher in earnings than that of celebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Matthew McConaughey. But the owner of Grumpy Cat has come forward saying the report, originally from Britain’s Daily Express, is not true.

Speaking with The Huffington Post, Tabatha Bundesen called the Daily Express report “completely inaccurate.” The 28-year-old Bundesen did not comment on how much Grumpy Cat has actually made, but she did say that she is planning to do an interview in which she will reveal the actual amount.

Over the past two years, Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, has built up quite a following on social media with that scowl look on her face. The female feline currently has more than 7 million likes on Facebook, 256,000 followers on Twitter, and 523,000 followers on Instagram.

The beloved cat just had a movie released on Lifetime titled Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, as well as a book that has sold more than 500,000 copies called Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book. There are also more than 400 items of merchandise such as T-shirts and plush dolls of the feline with a nonstop frown.

Speaking with the Hollywood Reporter, Grumpy Cat manager Ben Lashes estimated that the animal had brought in nearly $100 million, but he didn’t go into full detail on its earnings. He did say that the cat has become a huge sensation.

“This is a seven-figure cat, for sure.”

Lashes did not respond to the Huffington Post for comment in regards to the Daily Express report.

Even though Grumpy Cat has millions of fans on social media, not many of them tuned in to see her first movie. The A.V. Club reports that while Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever broke the record for most tweets about a Saturday night show during a holiday weekend, the Lifetime movie only brought in 1.8 million viewers. And many of the tweets were from people who mentioned that getting through the movie was torturous.

Now that the earnings report has been debunked by the owner herself, how much do you think Grumpy Cat actually makes?
