Chick-fil-A Denies Having Banned Word List

Chick-fil-A corporate office denies having a banned words list after reports that a restaurant barred teen slang. While Chick-fil-A corporate would not confirm a posting on Reddit claiming that an unidentified store manager had banned the use of popular slang terms, the company says that they had “a little fun” with the claim, according to Fox News.

Atlanta’s WSBTV reports that the employee remarked on Reddit, “I work at Chick-fil-A and Eric, our manager, is tired of our [expletive].” The November 6 post features a photo of the memo with the supposed banned words.

According to Fox News, company spokeswoman Tiffany Greenway addressed the allegations saying that although the company doesn’t have a banned word list, she thought that the people would “like to see what the Cows had to say” in response to the now-viral post, pointing us to the company’s official Twitter account. The tweet states, “Chick-fil-A Inc. doesn’t have a banned words list, but the Cows do. ‘@EatMorChikin: We hav a bannd werd list: burgerz, beef and ayngus.'”

“Eat Mor Chikin” refers to an ad slogan used by the chicken-centric fast food chain where cows are often portrayed wearing signs that read: “Eat mor chikin” in all capital letters.

The list, posted last Thursday by the user that goes by the name of Mauser, included 22 phrases and words like bae (baby), ratchet (ugly, gross), and bruh (brother) that workers were reportedly prohibited from using while on the clock at Chick-fil-A. Other words included guh, cuz, salty, and chill.

In the post, which has received over 1,300 comments, Mauser claimed that his manager—referred to as Eric—told employees they could no longer use them.

The list begins with, “You will speak properly when you walk through these doors. These words are banned.”

The Reddit user did not identify the location of where he works or when the sign was posted. The sign also says that if the employee scratches out a word from the list that “you lose your employee meals!”

The list also states that employees “stop accusing people of having Ebola”—the deadly virus that has killed more than 5,000 people, mostly in Western Africa. Additionally, the list prohibits the use of certain phrases such as, “I’m legally blind.” Reportedly, Eric wrote next to that, “No you are not.” The use of “weird voices” is also banned when using words like barely.

At the bottom of the list is a reminder for fast food workers to act their age. It reads, “You are a professional, so speak professionally.

The Inquisitr first reported this on November 10 when it emerged in the news. It is still unknown if the list is a hoax or not. However, it’s good to know that Chick-fil-A does not operate with a list of banned words for its employees.
