A 9-year-old from Providence was among four kids charged for an attack on a 45-year-old man. According to Fox News, the 9-year-old was arrested and charged along with two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old after they demanded money from a man and then attacked him using a “wooden object” and rocks. The Rhode Island kids are being kept at a youth facility while they await their trials.
According to The Providence Journal, the four boys attacked Victor Boj in Olneyville around 7 p.m. on Tuesday. They have all been charged with first-degree robbery and it’s unknown if other charges (related to the beating of the man) will be filed. The four boys were in family court on Wednesday.
The 9-year-old Providence boy may get a lesser punishment than his older friends (it is unknown if any of the boys were related). However all four are considered minors, so it’s possible that they will all face the same consequences. There is a chance that the youngest boy went along with his friends or was talked into doing this, but that may not be enough of a defense for him.
Many people tend to wonder how much a child realizes what is right and what is wrong. However, it sounds like these children knew exactly what they were doing. Sadly, there are a lot of crimes committed by kids, and many of these crimes are very serious. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, a 12-year-old boy was charged with the murder of his younger sister back in May of 2013.
“He’s 12. The odds are… that he lied and gives a macho story that he chased away the attacker … How does a 12-year-old commit the perfect crime?” attorney Mark Reichel questioned.
Of course, kids these days know a lot more than one might think. Many blame the movies and what parents allow their children to watch on television.
Unfortunately, the 9-year-old Providence boy will be spending a good part of his childhood in a juvenile detention center. Surely he was not thinking of the consequences while he was out causing trouble with his friends, but life is going to be very different for him moving forward. His parents have not commented on the case, and it’s unknown if they have hired an attorney for him — or if any of the other boys have lawyers.
Mr. Boj is okay following the attack. It is unknown if he needed medical treatment.
