Mike Huckabee: Gay Marriage Will Make Him Leave The Republican Party [Video]
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said earlier this week that if the Republican Party doesn’t stop placating gay marriage supporters then he would leave the party.
In a related report by The Inquisitr, Michele Bachmann was reported as giving up on the gay marriage debate, a topic that Bachmann has always had plenty to say about.
Huckabee was speaking via phone with Right Wing Watch News, and he was discussing how the Republican party has wavered back and forth on the gay marriage. He says his utter exasperation with the party’s choices may cause him to become an independent and “find people that have guts to stand.”
“If the Republicans want to lose guys like me and a whole bunch of still God-fearing Bible-believing people, go ahead and just abdicate on this issue.”
Huckabee also said he believes the party will continue to lose elections if they give up on the issue of gay marriage and abortion.
“I am utterly exasperated with Republicans and the so-called leadership of the Republicans who have abdicated on this issue when, if they continue this direction, they guarantee they’re gonna lose every election in the future. Guarantee it.”
He goes further on to infer that the core voters of the Republican party will not stand for the party trying to win voters over the gay marriage issue.
“And I don’t understand why they want to lose. Because a lot of Republicans, particularly in the establishment and those who live on either the left coast or those who live up in the bubbles of New York and Washington, are convinced that if we don’t capitulate on the same sex marriage issue and if we don’t raise the white flag of surrender and just the accept it as inevitable, then we’re going to be losers.”
