Michael Phelps Arrested Again For DUI in Baltimore City, Maryland

Michael Phelps, the American swimmer, has been arrested for driving under the influence, according to today’s report by TMZ and WMUR. Michael Phelps was busted by police in Baltimore City, Maryland after he was observed speeding in a 45 m.p.h. zone at around 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday. It was then that Maryland law enforcement officers noticed that Phelps was visibly intoxicated.

Officers made Phelps exit his vehicle so that they could administer a sobriety test. He failed the test and had a blood alcohol level double the legal limit, according to TMZ.

Michael Phelps, who is described as a dedicated and extremely focused swimmer, was arrested for a DUI in Maryland back in 2004 at the age of 19.

In 2009, the highly decorated Olympic swimmer was photographed smoking a glass pipe of what was thought to be marijuana. Michael Phelps, who was regretful for his actions, made the following statement regarding the scandal, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old, and despite the successes I have had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner that people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public — it will not happen again.”

Despite this latest set back, Michael Phelps, who is known for his inspirational quotes, is still highly respected in the athletic world. Always thrusting ahead despite the obstacles, Phelps says, “You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.”

“Performance is reality.”

Hopefully, Phelps’ positive and upbeat attitude will pull him through. Some of Facebook’s commenters are not so forgiving.

“Net worth of 40 million and still not smart enough to hire a driver. Can’t fix stupid.”

“What a dumba—….I guess he’s too broke for a freakin’ cab?? Celebrities who get DUI’s should face another charge…aggravated idiocy.”
