Illegal Immigrant Housing Center To Open In Texas, Will Hold Thousands At Taxpayer Expense

An illegal immigrant housing center will soon be operating in South Texas. The center will reportedly hold about 2,400 illegal aliens, including individuals and families that U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended crossing into America.

The South Texas Family Residential Center will boast play rooms, educational classes, social workers, access to legal services, and medical care, all courtesy of the American taxpayer. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) reportedly expects the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border from Mexico into Texas to “pick up” in the coming months.

A statement regarding the illegal immigrants housing center in South Texas by ICE said, “[The agency] plans to open and operate a new residential center in Dilley, Texas to house adults and children in response to the influx of adults traveling with children apprehended along the southwest border.”

The housing facility for the illegal aliens reportedly encompasses 50 acres, and will be ready to serve its intended capacity “within 210 days,” ICE added. The illegal immigrants will be housed at the centers until they have been “processed,” after which the adults and children will be placed in the custody of the Health and Human Services.

Shortly before ICE issued the announcement about the opening of the new housing center, a group of immigration advocacy groups hosted a media conference call to demand that the federal government end its “expansion of family detention centers.” Activists from the National Immigration Justice Center and We Belong Together feel women and children should not be “detained” while awaiting the outcome of their illegal immigration deportation hearings.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, many illegal immigrant children have been placed with relatives already living in the United States, or in foster homes. The Health and Human Services websites states that the United States government is required to provide medical care, food, and shelter for unaccompanied children until the government is “able to release them to safe settings with sponsors” while awaiting immigration proceedings. Border Patrol officials have stated that a significant number of illegal immigrants who are released after a hearing date is assigned never show back up for the legal proceedings.

The Dilley illegal immigrant housing center is the fourth such facility to be built in Texas in recent months. The town is approximately 70 miles southwest of San Antonio. ICE will be in charge of the South Texas facility when it does finally open. Similar housing facilities to hold illegal aliens have also opened up in Artesia and Karnes City, New Mexico. An existing housing center is also still in use in Leesport, Pennsylvania.
