Shawn Marion Joins The Cleveland Cavaliers? Here is Why Other NBA Teams Should Worry!

Shawn Marion is heading to the Cleveland Cavaliers. It’s official! After months of speculation and rumors about where the free agent power forward would decide to call his home heading into next season, Shawn Marion officially committed to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.

What exactly does this mean for the NBA? Well, that just depends on whether or not you are a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Keep in mind that Shawn Marion has been to the playoffs 10 times so far in his 15-season career. Back in 2011, he played an instrumental role in helping the Dallas Mavericks defeat LeBron James and the Miami Heat for the NBA Championship. Even in the 2013-2014 season, Shawn Marion was still able to deliver an impressive on-court performance — averaging 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds each game. Another point that you should not forget is that 36-year old Shawn Marion also started in 76 out of 82 games!

If you are a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, then you immediately flashed your wicked smirk and started practicing your maniacal laugh as soon as you heard the news. This is the same laugh that you had (1) when LeBron first announced that he would be returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers and (2) when it was confirmed that Kevin Love would be coming to Cleveland officially on August 23rd.

On the other hand, if you are not a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, hearing about Shawn Marion becoming one of the Cavaiiers probably has you very worried about your favorite NBA team.

Why? It seems as if LeBron James has successfully built the perfect team from the ground up.

When LeBron James went to the Miami Heat back in 2010, he was basically able to bring only one player with him – Chris Bosh. Dwyane Wade clearly does not plan on leaving the Miami Heat at any point in his career – which he has once again proven by resigning with the Miami Heat for yet another season. The three of them together formed the “Big Three” of the Miami Heat. Four years later, it seems as if LeBron James took his recruiting efforts to brand new heights.

Kyrie Irving had already agreed to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers long before LeBron James made his official announcement. Fans were excited about Andrew Wiggins for about 10 seconds – especially when the rumors about Kevin Love coming to Cleveland started to circulate. Mike Miller and James Jones also decided to join their old Heat teammate with hopes of winning another championship. Now, Shawn Marion has accepted his invitation to the Cavs party as well. Only time will tell if Ray Allen decides to follow in the footsteps of Shawn Marion and join the Cavs as well.
