Oklahoma Woman Arrested For Leaving A Critically Wounded Teen In Ditch For Hours After ATV Wreck

An Oklahoma woman has been arrested after allegedly leaving a teen boy in a ditch for hours after an ATV accident. The Sequoyah County District Attorney’s office explained that Angela Gray, 39, was arrested on suspicion of felony leaving the scene of an accident, misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and misdemeanor providing alcohol to a minor, according to KFSM.

Christian Mayberry, 16, was critically injured last year when his Polaris ATV ran off the road and into a ditch in Muldrow, Oklahoma. During the crash, Mayberry was ejected 12 feet. After the wreck, instead of seeking medical help, Gray is charged with allowing the critically injured teen to remain in the ditch for hours as another teen cleaned up evidence of underage drinking.

According to News 6, Mayberry was attending a party with new friends the night the accident occurred. Gray is said to have provided alcohol to the underage minors and a witness at the party claims that Gray was actually the one driving the ATV when it crashed. Initially, Gray told police that Mayberry was alone when the vehicle crashed and later claimed to have been a passenger. However, a witness from the party claims to have overheard Gray’s son talking about a cover-up plan stating she heard the boy say:

“You know my mom was driving it. Kyle and I will take the fall and say [Christian] was following us and wrecked.”

Gray’s son and another teen at the party have been charged with destroying evidence and lying to law enforcement. The pair is said to have lied about who was driving the ATV, how it crashed, and clearing out alcohol that had been present at the party.

Christian’s mother just doesn’t understand how anyone could stand by as her son was dying in a ditch.

“It’s just so painful to even think about. To think about my son laying there desperately needing help.”

Christian spent over half a year in the hospital following the accident and is still in need of 24/7 care. Christian currently moves between rehabilitation centers and nursing homes. Christian’s mother says that justice was served as Gray was arrested, her biggest wish still remains the health of her son:

“My biggest wish, my biggest prayer, my biggest belief is that I’m going to get him out of the bed and get him home with me and living a normal life.”

What do you think of the charges brought against Gray? Should there be harsher charges or are they sufficient?
