Angelina Jolie will be directing her husband, actor Brad Pitt, in an upcoming movie, according to a report from Variety. Jolie will also write the script and star in the new film.
This will be the first time the power couple has worked together since they starred in the 2005 flick, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, where they met and fell in love.
Jolie and Pitt will also produce the project, which is reportedly based on a couple with problems, who takes a vacation as a last effort to save their relationship. In a statement, Angelina Jolie said:
“I am very happy to continue my relationship with Donna (Langley) and the entire Universal team as I finish Unbroken and begin work on By The Sea. They have created a very special place for storytellers, and I look forward to the continued passion and support they have provided to me as a filmmaker.”
According to Deadline — who was the first outlet to break the news about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s project in May — every studio was after the script, but Universal prevailed, perhaps due to the prior working relationship with the popular actress. Back then, the studio refused to confirm whether Jolie was directing or not.
Langley praised Angelina Jolie’s work in front and behind the cameras and expressed her excitement in working with her and Brad Pitt in this project:
“Angelina continues to showcase her extraordinary storytelling abilities in front of and behind the camera and we are thrilled to extend our relationship with her on By the Sea. Angelina and Brad represent two of Hollywood’s brightest talents and we are excited to be a part of their collaboration on this powerful piece.”
Angelina Jolie is currently directing Unbroken for Universal. The film is an adaptation of the Laura Hillenbrand’s book about the late Olympian, war hero Louis Zamperini. The film is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day, so we don’t expect Angelina and Brad Pitt to begin working on By The Sea at least until after opening day.
In 2005, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt sizzled in Mr. And Mrs. Smith, but denied for a long time that their relationship began on set, even though Jolie admitted later on they fell in love during filming. However, at the time, Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston, and so the rumors of an affair were a constant topic of tabloids.
Pitt and Aniston later divorced, and in January of 2006 Brangelina made their relationship official. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are one of the most successful, sought after couples in Hollywood.
