Bedroom Dresser Falls On Girls: Dresser Kills 2 Girls While Playing In Bottom Drawer

A bedroom dresser falls on two girls, killing them both. The incident happened in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Friday morning when the sisters were struck by tragedy. WPXI reports that 2-year-old Brooklyn Beatty and her 3-year-old sister, Ryeley Beatty, were playing around in a bedroom when a dresser fell on top of both girls. Brooklyn was pronounced dead that afternoon.

Ryeley was hospitalized in critical condition until Sunday afternoon when she was also pronounced dead, CBS News reports in a story update. The Beaver County Medical Examiner’s Officer confirmed this.

The girls’ aunt, Rebecca Beatty, lives next door and rushed to the scene after the dresser fell on the girls. The father was inside the house at the time. She said:

“I heard the father screaming, yelling. I rushed over, and because I’m a nurse, started CPR.”

Neighbor Joseph Sheppard shared what he knew about the incident:

“The dad, he said he was running bathwater and he heard a boom. And he ran in there and I guess he lifted it up (the dresser) and (brought) them outside.”

Mayor Dwan Walker and the Aliquippa Police Chief were attending a Fourth of July parade when the police chief received the call. They went to the home where “several police and firefighters tried desperately to save the children, giving them CPR,” Walker explained. The mayor said they did “everything they could.”

In another report offering more information by FOX10TV, Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatolovich Rossi revealed that Ryeley Beatty died Sunday at Children’s Hospital in Lawrenceville.

Rossi told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the two girls appeared to be playing in the bottom drawer of the dresser and that’s when the item came crashing down on both of them.

Brooklyn died Friday at Heritage Valley Beaver hospital in Brighton. According to details released of the accident, the 2-year-old “died of asphyxiation due to compression of her chest.” An autopsy of Ryeley will be conducted.

The Inquisitr reported on another tragedy of two sisters being killed when a tree fell on a car. Ironically, the accident unfolded in Pennsylvania as well — in Conemaugh Township. The deaths involved an 8-year-old and a 6-year-old.

In early June a toddler was killed by a statue after it fell on him at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. He was playing around the statue while and it somehow toppled over, crashing on top of the helpless boy.

Things like a tree, statue, or bedroom dresser can kill children easily when they’re the least bit unsecured.
