Bill Belichick may be a gruff and grumpy personality to the public, but to girlfriend Linda Holliday he’s apparently just a lovable Croatian.
The lady friend of the New England Patriots coach shared a picture of herself wearing a shirt that read “I Love My Croatian Boyfriend” last week when Croatia met up with Mexico in the 2014 World Cup.
It was a revelation to many that Bill Belichick is Croatian, but the New York Post did some digging and found a 2005 story by The Boston Globe that referenced his heritage:
“Steve Belichick came from classic football country — Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. He was the youngest of five children born to Ivan (known as John) and Mary Barkovic Bilicic. Yes, the name is Croatian and it was Anglicized, not at Ellis Island as so many others were, but by a first grade teacher in Monessen, Pennsylvania, where all the Belichick children were born.”
It’s not unusual for NFL coaches to go to great lengths for their girlfriends. Fellow coaching legend Bill Cowher appeared in a music video for his rocker Queen V.
The video had a strange Game of Thrones theme, showing Cowher as some kind of medieval bodyguard.
Pittsburgh Magazine later reported the reason Cowher made the cameo:
“Turns out Cowher is dating Queen V, and if you’ve ever been in a relationship, you know how these things go. Sometimes you do ridiculous things for people you love.”
But Cowher has been a bit actor before, appearing in The Dark Knight Rises as a football coach in a scene filmed at the Steelers’ home stadium, Heinz Field.
Though Linda Holliday may love her Croatian boyfriend Bill Belichick, her pride did nothing for the Croatian men’s team. The team fell to Mexico 3-1.
