The New Video Game Releases for the Week of June 29 are here and once again we find ourselves with a plethora of games to choose from. Compilations, ports and localizations dominate the majority of the list with many of the new releases being digital only.
The biggest new video game release of the week is arguably Sniper Elite III. The World War II shooter rose to prominence amongst shooter fans for the incredibly detailed cranium explosions featured in the game. This latest entry into the series is being released on the last and current-gen systems of Sony and Microsoft. The story continues to follow OSS sniper Karl Fairburne in the North African theatre of World War II. Xbox One Gamers who purchase the latest entry from Rebellion studios will need to make sure they have a solid internet connection as the game comes with a hefty 10GB Mandatory Day-One patch for those who purchase the game as a physical disc. Speaking to Eurogamer, Rebellion commented on the patch saying it needs the download to bring it up to parity with the Xbox Live version of the game as well as decrease the install size of the game.
Independent game hit Guacamelee! will also see a new release this week complete with the Capcom inspired ridiculous subtitle addition, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition. The metroidvania action-platformer combines Mexican culture and folklore and was a surprise hit for the last gen systems. The new release includes new moves and costumes as well as elite-class enemies.
Another new video game release for the week is the localized version of Mysterious Stars: A Fairy Tale. The game is part of trilogy of games under the Mysterious Stars title including The Singer, The Samurai and now A Fairy Tale which will be released for the aging Nintendo DSi as well as the Nintendo 3DS. Developer Collavier details the game as a puzzle game in which the main objective is to connect the dots in order until the last one using the stylus. The story follows a little matchstick girl who lives with her evil step mother while the player is able to connect-the-stars and you can unlock objects to send the to the little girl. Like the PSP game in last week's list, this is another game that is coming to older hardware while being compatible with the newer 3DS.
