‘American Horror Story’: Who Is Angela Bassett Playing In ‘Freak Show'?

Ryan Murphy has been keeping a lot of details about American Horror Story: Freak Show a complete secret. However, we do know that it takes place in Florida in the 1950s; Denis O'Hare will play a "collector of freaks" and newcomer Michael Chiklis will play Kathy Bates' ex-husband.

We also know that a lot of American Horror Story veterans will be returning for the fourth season, including Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett. Lange will play the German ex-pat trying to keep one of the last freak shows in the United States open for business. As for Bassett, well, she isn't sure yet, according to a report from Vulture.

Bassett said she is "not the bearded lady" in the new season of American Horror Story, and she knows that because Murphy told her so. But the only thing Murphy said to her was that her character was "even more special" than that.

"You know it's 'freak show,' so your mind begins to work," she said.

She also knows that she won't be playing conjoined twins, which leads to even more speculation for her and the American Horror Story fans.

"I don't know what other freaks there are," Bassett said. "After the bearded lady and the conjoined twins, what else is there?"

Since Bassett doesn't know who she's playing in the new season of American Horror Story, that means it's time for people to start taking guesses. And at the same time, they can start thinking about what other freaks will be in the new season.

Bustle created a list of characters that have the possibility of appearing in American Horror Story: Freak Show, and only three of them could be ones that Bassett could play. One is the four-legged woman, while the other two are the camel girl and the human unicorn.

Of course, Murphy might get creative and either reverse the genders on well-known figures like the elephant man and the lion-faced boy, or he'll come up with characters of his own for Bassett and the other cast members. Again, it's all a mystery for American Horror Story fans.

Murphy did say that season four will be "equally as challenging" as the show's previous seasons, according to a report from Fashion & Style

"So much of it is period and crazy and gothic," he said.

No official date has been set, but it is expected that American Horror Story: Freak Show will premiere in October.
