Chris Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow Seemed ‘Distant’ At Last Coldplay Performance

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow seemed “distant” at an intimate Coldplay performance this past Saturday, according to an eyewitness who was present at Sony Studios, where the event took place.

The information comes a day after the power couple — who had been married for 10 years — announced they were going their separate ways following a desperate year-long attempt to save their relationship.

Although we don’t know exactly why Chris Martin and his actress wife are calling it quits, according to Fox News an eyewitness reported something was “amiss” and that the pair didn’t seem to be interacting in the after party that followed the band’s performance.

The concert was put together to film scenes for the upcoming DVD release of Coldplay’s latest album Ghost Stories and was followed by a very small gathering with mostly family and friends.

Another eyewitness described Paltrow as looking less than vibrant, stressed, and not herself, perhaps in anticipation of the sad announcement of her separation from Chris Martin, however, the 41-year-old has said in the past that even if she or Martin look less than happy in public it doesn’t many there is trouble.

A source close to the Coldplay frontman, states that Martin had decided against doing press to promote the album — which hits stores and iTunes on May 19 — even before the announcement of his split was made public.

Many were surprised by the news that the couple — who was rarely seen together in public — has decided to separate. However, there were some indications the relationship was having problems as far back as last year, when Gwyneth commented how hard it was to be married, without mentioning Chris, in an interview with Glamour UK in May of 2013:

“It’s hard being married. You go through great times, you go through terrible times. We’re the same as any couple.”

“I’ve learned more about myself being married than anything else. I hate to say, ‘We’ve got it worked out,’ because you never know what’s going to happen, but we laugh, we’re good friends, we like to do the same stuff.”

In what would prove to be a prophetic 2011 interview with Elle magazine, Chris Martin’s wife talked about being married to the Brit:

“Sometimes it’s hard being with someone for a long time. We go through periods that aren’t all rosy. I always say, life is long and you never know what’s going to happen. If, God forbid, we were ever not to be together, I respect him so much as the father of my children. Like, I made such a good choice. He’s such a good dad. You can never be relaxed or smug and think, ‘I’ve got this thing.’ That’s also part of it: keeping yourself on your toes. I’m not going to take this for granted.”

Chris Martin is said to be “devastated and heartbroken” about the end of his marriage, according to a report on Hollywoodlife, but is putting his kids — who he loves above all things — first, as he and Paltrow move through the separation process.
