Congressman Alan Grayson Accused Of Domestic Violence

The estranged wife of US Congressman Alan Grayson has accused him of shoving her in an alleged domestic violence incident.

As a result of this encounter, Lolita Grayson sought and obtained a temporary protective order against the Florida Democrat today because of fears for her safety. She filed for divorce in January after 24 years of marriage. They have five children.

The lawmaker allegedly showed up unexpectedly when his wife was about to take two of their children on a play date, according to court papers. “Lolita Grayson’s petition for the injunction, dated Monday, says her husband pushed her against a door, causing her to fall to the ground, during a confrontation Saturday at their home…”

Mrs. Grayson admitted to pushing her husband in the face and kneeing him in the stomach in self defense. The petition also claims that while she was calling 911, Grayson declared that his wife “would receive nothing” and be left “in the gutter” after the divorce proceedings.

Rep. Grayson’s office claimed that the allegations are “absolutely false” and “completely unfounded” and that his wife was the one who physically attacked the congressman when he tried to visit with his children.

Mrs. Grayson also alleged that there have been prior episodes of battery against her and the kids, but this is first time that she has gone to court for a restraining order.

The liberal congressman was not arrested as a result of the incident, and no criminal charges are pending. However, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a domestic violence-battery investigation into the Alan Grayson incident.

The couple are due back in court on March 20.

Alan Grayson, who represents Florida’s Ninth Congressional District in the Orlando area, is perhaps best known for making wild accusations against Republicans on the House floor and also on cable channels like MSNBC.

Against that backdrop, the Legal Insurrection website quipped that Grayson is entitled to a presumption of innocence “Even if Grayson has called a female lobbyist a whore, compared the Tea Party to the Ku Klux Klan, regularly attacked political opponents in the most vicious terms, and even accused Republicans of wanting people to die quickly.”
