2011 Omaha Nighthawks schedule analysis

While I understand the situation the powers that be within the United Football League are in, it is my job to point out where I believe they have gone astray. As a huge fan of this league, I simply want what they do, a league that is awesome and finically viable. The limits of a five team league and schedule have already been pointed out, but the UFL schedule masters have really given teh Nighthawks a tough pill to swallow. Before we get to all of that, the entire Nighthawks schedule can be seen here.

So the Nighthawks are the best live attendance drawing team in this league, but the UFL have scheduled just one of their first three games at home. They may be banking on a strong showing by this team and to use the big live crowds in Omaha to sustain the league down the home stretch, but with a tough schedule on the road the Nighthawks may be out of it before then. At one point in 2010, they were 3-1 and ended up 4-4, so they may be a better first half team.

They begin out west at Sacramento, then a home date with the Virginia Destroyers, a trip out west to Las Vegas and then back east the following week against the Destroyers at home. That is a two week stretch that will be very tough on this team. Then they get a bye, and then Sacramento at home. One trip back east to take on the Colonials and hen they get the Locos at home, a bye, and the Colonials at home to finish up.

That is a lot of traveling for a team that only won one road game a year ago. Hopefully new head coach Joe Moglia has them motivated and ready to endure a brutal five team schedule.
