Bill Murray Wants To Star As Peter Pan In NBC’s Live Action Musical

Bill Murray thinks he’d make a great Peter Pan, and on an episode of the Late Show with David Letterman the actor gave one heck of an audition.

Murray flew onto the set of the show on a wire, remaining there for the duration of his appearance.

While tethered to the flying ropes, Bill Murray made a pitch to star in the highly anticipated Peter Pan live musical, which hopes to capture some of the magic — and some of the audience — from the live performance of The Sound of Music.

“I think I’m the guy,” Murray told Letterman.

Bill still has other commitments ahead. Last year he signed on to lend his voice to the DreamWorks Animation comedy B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murray will play a ghost named Addison Drake in the animated movie. He joins some other big names who have signed on for B.O.O., including Seth Rogen, Melissa McCarthy, Rashida Jones, Matt Bomer, Jennifer Coolidge, and Octavia Spencer. Igor director Tony Leondis is is picked to lead the project, which has a tentative release date of June 5, 2015.

While Bill Murray was more than likely joking about his intention to play the role of a boy who refuses to grow up, the search for the real Peter Pan is heating up. When NBC announced in early December that it intended to stage a live performance of Peter Pan, executives purposely avoided speculation on who could play the part of Pan.

Bob Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, joked that he wanted Miley Cyrus to play Peter Pan, but later ruled out some of the other names suggested — Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift.

So maybe Bill Murray has a chance after all.
