Jennifer Lawrence was aiming to shock at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards red carpet, and she certainly accomplished it.
The 23-year-old actress showed up to the biggest event of award season to date wearing a black and white Dior Haute Couture dress, one that earned plenty of attention and some entirely mixed reviews from fashion experts.
Us Weekly noted of the look:
“The white strapless gown flared out at the bottom and was separated into three parts with black strips — making for a look that’s sure to be debated by many. She paired her dress with dark lipstick and Deborah Lippmann ‘Bithces Brew’ nail polish.”
Jennifer Lawrence said she picked the outfit to stand out.
“I decided to shock them all,” she told E! News of her attire in the red carpet broadcast.
Jennifer Lawrence was famous for her wardrobe malfunction at the Academy Awards last year, when she got tripped up over her flowing dress while walking on stage to accept the Oscar for Best Actress.
“I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear if my name was called, and I kept thinking, Cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk. I thought, Why is ‘cakewalk’ stuck in my head? And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realized my stylist had told me, ‘Kick, walk, kick, walk.’ You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that’s why I fell.”
After debuting her “shocking” dress, Jennifer Lawrence pretty quickly saw her Golden Globes night turn good. Early on in the broadcast she won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her role in American Hustle.
