A look at the UFL QB situation

In my daily pursuing for sports related websites today I came across this interesting piece over at uflaccess.com. Last year this upstart league had a few marquee names at the QB positions. Guys like Daunte Culpepper, Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, as well as UFL made star Brooks Bollinger. Man what a difference a year makes. Right now it looks like only Culpepper will return, but may bolt if any NFL team is willing to give him a starting job. So let us take a look at the QB situations for the five UFL teams heading into their third season:

Las Vegas Locomotives– They return Chase Clement and Tim Rattay. Clement is the reigning UFL Championship game MVP and should compete for the full time starting spot in 2011. Of all the teams this is the team most set at QB.

Hartford Colonials– Josh McCown did ok here, but is still kicking himself for not taking the backup job in Chicago where he likely would have played in the NFC championship game. He is unlikely to return, and the Colonials have drafted Texas A&M QB Jerrod Johnson. They also hold the rights to Colt Brennan so this job will have to be decided in training camp.

Sacramento Mountain Lions– Daunte likely will return, if not last year’s back up Liam O’Hagan will likely get a shot. If Culpepper bolts they would try to lure former Fresno State QB Ryan Colburn to join the team.

Omaha Nighthawks– Garcia is probably gone so his backup from 2010 DJ Shockley will get the first crack. They also drafted Jeremiah Masoli, and Eric Couch has been rumored to join this team.

Virginia Destroyers– Bollinger and backup Chris Greisen are unlikely to return. Pat White, Derek Devine, and Dennis Brown are possible replacements.
