Telltale’s ‘The Walking Dead: Season 2’ Episode ‘All That Remains’ Receives Strong Reviews

If you’re on the fence about The Walking Dead: Season 2, then you should seriously consider checking out a handful of reviews for the first episode.

Instead playing someone who’s tasked with keeping Clementine alive, the second season of Telltale Games’ spin-off finds players stepping into the shoes of the little girl as she makes her way through a world filled with the living dead. Judging from the reviews posted at Metacritic, fans of the game should enjoy the first installment of her latest outing.

Let’s kick things off on a positive note. The folks over at Joystiq explained that The Walking Dead: Season 2 definitely gets started on the right foot. However, fans of the adventure series should anticipate lots of action and a fair amount of tension.

“The action sequences in the premiere episode are well-paced and fraught with tension. They’re streamlined from the first season’s experiments, offering a mix of timed clicks, button mashes and swipes, alongside a frantic search for the right weapon in the surrounding area,” the website wrote.

Destructoid was also impressed with the first outing from The Walking Dead: Season 2. While the characters don’t have the same presence as the ones found in the first batch of episodes, fans should still find plenty to enjoy in “All That Remains.”

“The new cast may not be as memorable as the folks in the initial offering, but they’re welcome additions, all with their own unique personalities. I particularly like this choice because it sets up future episodes, and your first impressions will no doubt come back to help or bite you later,” writer Chris Carter explained.

Unfortunately, not everyone was completely smitten with the first installment of The Walking Dead: Season 2. Hardcore Gamer points out that the game hasn’t established itself as a worthy successor to the original. Additionally, “All That Remains” struggles to properly lay the groundwork for the next batch of episodes.

The website explained:

“There are notably fewer meaningful choices to be found and the action scenes are without much suspense as Clementine is far too susceptible to be grabbed by a walker. The story is too loose and doesn’t display a proper direction just yet. It’s not all bad as there is a rather striking moment halfway through the story, but if this is truly all that remains, then we’re in for a rough season.”
