‘Man Of Steel 2’ Producer Still Believes Ben Affleck Is Perfect For Batman
Man of Steel 2 producer Charles Roven firmly believes that Ben Affleck is the right guy to tackle the role of Batman in Zack Snyder’s sequel.
Although a lot of people seem to think the Argo director is the absolute worst person to play the Dark Knight in Batman vs. Superman, Roven doesn’t agree at all. During a recent chat with Variety, he explained why Affleck is perfect for the part in the Man of Steel follow-up.
“Ben is going to be a really great and interesting Batman. We wanted a guy who had a certain age and a certain gravitas to what he had done in terms of his recent work. If you take a look at ‘The Town’ and ‘Argo,’ he plays a couple of serious guys in those movies,” Roven explained.
He continued, “He’s a big man. He’s also a mature man. As you see him and Henry together, one definitely has much more experience just by looking at him. That’s what we wanted, particularly juxtaposed against our Superman.”
According to Worst Previews, “soft prep” on Batman vs. Superman began in June. Roven hopes that filming on Man of Steel 2 will begin in a few short months. The producer also mentioned that Zack Snyder’s box office hit was specifically designed to lay the groundwork for additional DC superhero flicks.
“We felt that we accomplished our goals with ‘Man of Steel.’ Our intention was to bring Superman into the 21st century with a contemporary character and a different kind of superhero than what’s out there right now,” Roven explained to Variety.
The producer added, “We knew we had created a world and we had left Easter eggs in the movie that let people know that in the universe that Zack [Snyder] was creating, there was the possibility of other DC characters besides Clark Kent.”
Speculation about the “other DC characters” is all over the place at the moment. Reports recently suggested that everyone from Wonder Woman to The Flash could make an appearance in Man of Steel 2. Of course, Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder aren’t saying anything on the matter at the moment.
The Inquisitr previously reported that Girls star Adam Driver was among a handful of actors up for the role of Nightwing. However, Driver shot down those rumors last week. Until the studio or the director confirms these rumors, it’s always best to take them with a grain of salt.
