Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus: Pop Pals Battle For North America At 2013 MTV EMAs

Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus may be good friends, but the pair are going head to head to choose who represents North America at the Worldwide Act competition at the 2013 MTV EMAs.

Everyone’s favorite twerker won the Best US Act slot thanks to Smilers, while everyone’s favorite shirtless advocate won the Best Canadian Act courtesy of Beliebers.

So now voting has begun and lasts until October 31, to send either Bieber or Cyrus through to the next round to face off against other regions — such as Japan, korea, Africa, India, Middle East — for votes, with 10 finalists announced on November 1.

From there, the Best Worldwide Act winner will be declared at the 2013 MTV EMAs.

The event takes place on Sunday, November 10, from the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.

Performers on the night include Miley, who we’re really hoping will be wearing clothes, Katy Perry, Robin Thicke, Imagine Dragons, Afrojack, Snoop Dogg (Lion) and the Killers.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Justin Timberlake nabbed five nominations each, with Bieber, Lady Gaga, Cyrus and Thicke picking up four. Usual suspects, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, One Direction, and (surprisingly) Thirty Seconds to Mars are also up for multiple awards.

Other artists nominated include Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Calvin Harris, Eminem, Iggy Azalea, Queens of the Stone Age, Rita Ora, Paramore, Linkin Park, Jay Z, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Pink, Kings of Leon, Kanye West and Rudimental, to name just a few of the contenders.

After Cyrus’ Best US win, remaining categories are North America Worldwide Nominee, Best Pop, Best Female and Best Video. Votes for Cyrus can be cast here.

Now that Bieber has won the Best Canada Act, remaining categories are North America Worldwide Nominee, Best Pop, Best Male, and Biggest Fans. Votes for Bieber can be cast here.

Voting around the world is already underway at MTVEMA.com online or M.MTVEMA.com if you are registering via mobile phones and ends 11:50 pm. CET on Friday, November 8.

Are you rooting for Cyrus or Bieber or anyone else at the MTV EMAs?
